Sheng Zhang’s designs are usually influenced and inspired by minimalist art, contemporary architecture and geometric form. His work normally adheres to space, volume, silhouette, boundary along with investigating the relationship between each individual work as a collection and the work itself within its surroundings.
This collection contains indentations accented with precious metal grains to complement the special qualities of these beakers. It conveys the sense of integrity, celebrates and connects the positive and negative space that an object dominates, as well as questions the role of function in a conceptual and aesthetic work of art.
Each piece is a result of a carefully controlled and purposely structured making process by using a blend of hand-made traditional silversmithing methods, with the aid of digital technologies. Materials include sterling silver and Jesmonite.
